In The Word

(Sorry, I couldn’t think of a clever title…)

Last week I was reading an article on RelevantMagazine.com, which referenced a pastor named Steven Furtick – from Elevation Church (Charlotte, NC). I checked out the church online and looked into who Steven was. He recently put out a book called “Greater: Dream Bigger. Start Smaller. Ignite God’s Vision for Your Life“. I checked it out – read reviews – and bought it from B&N the other day. He also had a sermon/message series on the books topic – which I’ve been listening to.

I’ve been listening to a lot of messages/podcasts of Furtick’s in the car on my way to/from work. I’ve found that it’s a better way to pass the time driving – rather than listening to music – at least at this point. I really like the way he delivers the message – he’s articulate, impactful, quick, and drives solid biblical points home.

I’ve also discovered some devotional series (thru YouVersion.com) that look appealing from John Piper (theologian, Calvin) – so I’m going through those each day as well:

  1. Finding Real Happiness: Devotions with John Piper
  2. God’s Joy in Jesus: Devotions with John Piper
  3. The Powerful Promises of God: Devotions With John Piper
After I’m done with “Greater” – I’ve got John Piper’s book “Future Grace:┬áThe Purifying Power of the Promises of God” in the tank as well.
I’m posting this because I believe if I put this out there for others to see, it will (in theory) force me to follow through with my desire to actually learn and grow. Maybe it’ll prompt questions from others.. Or maybe it’ll spark someone else’s interest and excitement.
